The true cost of employee absenteeism…

As I sit here at my desk nearing the end of the day pondering what mass absenteeism is costing companies across the globe, a thought dawns on me… Am I also guilty of the crime… wasting time at work, am I present but not present????

Regardless of whether your employee is actually absent from work at your office/factory etc or is physically there but the lights aren’t on the cost remains the same to you. Reduced productivity = a loss in turnover/profit/productivity. However you measure it, it’s: Not Good.

But, how do you turn the absentees (physical or mental!) into fully signed up, want to work, turn up 20 minutes early chomping at the bit employees? Well bribery is one way I suppose, the old carrot on a stick trick could work. Please come to work every day and get free cake!

But perhaps it runs a little deeper than that. Perhaps we should be looking at the bigger picture ask ourselves as employers are these people well enough to be carrying out their jobs in a satisfactory way? Have a look about you, do you think they are?
